Nonograms online

Play nonograms online: the numbers beside each row and column tell you which squares to fill, and every grid can be finished one line at a time, without guessing.

Your statistics

These nonograms online are made by our own generator and checked before you see them: each grid can be finished with line logic alone, so you never have to guess, and that also means it has exactly one answer. Pick a level, play a fresh grid or the puzzle of the day, and keep your times in this browser.

How to play nonograms

Each row and each column has a clue: a list of numbers. Every number is a block of filled squares, in that order, with at least one empty square between two blocks. A row with the clue 3 1 holds a block of three, then a gap of one or more, then a single square. Fill the squares so that every row and every column matches its clue. In this game the filled squares form a pattern rather than a drawing; the logic is the same as in picture nonograms.

Tap a square to fill it, tap again to cross it out, and a third time to clear it. Dragging paints the same choice over a whole stretch of squares. A cross means "this square is empty"; it is optional, but crosses make the next deductions much easier to see. A clue turns gray as soon as its line matches it.

The three levels

Easy grids are 5 by 5, medium 10 by 10 and hard 15 by 15. On every level the solver fills the whole grid by looking at one row or column at a time: for each line it lists every way the blocks can fit with what is already known and keeps only the squares that agree in all of them. A grid is shown only when that line-by-line method finishes it, so bigger grids are harder because there is more to track, not because they need a guess.

Strategy tips

  • Overlap: in a 10 square row with the clue 8, the block covers squares 3 to 8 wherever it starts, so fill those six now.
  • Add up the clue: blocks plus one gap between each pair. If the total equals the line length, the whole line is fixed.
  • Edges: a filled square at the edge of the grid starts the first block, so fill the rest of that block and cross the square after it.
  • Finished lines: once a line matches its clue, cross every square left in it.
  • Switch direction often. Every square you settle in a row is new information for its column.

Hints, checks and statistics

Hint finds the row or column where line logic settles the most squares right now, fills them in and names the line and its clue, so you can see the reasoning. Wrong entries are removed first. Check marks squares that disagree with the answer; Show mistakes does it as you play. Your solved count, best and average time and daily streak are kept per level on this device. Challenge a friend copies a link with the exact grid.

Questions

What is the difference between a nonogram, a griddler and a hanjie?

They are names for the same puzzle. Picross and paint by numbers are used too. The rules are the ones on this page.

Do I have to mark the empty squares?

No. The grid is solved as soon as every filled square is right. Crosses only help you keep track of squares you know are empty.

Will I ever need to guess?

No. Every grid here was checked to be solvable line by line, which also guarantees a single answer.

Why did a clue turn gray?

Its row or column now matches the clue exactly. It can still be wrong if another line disagrees, so keep an eye on the crossing lines.

Is the puzzle of the day the same for everyone?

Yes. Our generator builds it from the date, so everyone gets the same grid at each level that day. It never uses a daily puzzle from any other site.
